The Squirt 2 team had a great game Sunday against Methuen. A true team effort, each line contributed to the win offensively, scoring and back checking. The defense was key, they kept the puck in the offensive zone for the majority of the game. Methuen didn’t stand a chance in the offensive zone. A scrum at the net in the 3rd period allowed Methuen to sneak in a goal. Goalie Jake O’Brien and his team were able to prevail in the end with a 5-2 victory. They will be moving on the play Thursday night in the semi-final game. Good Luck in the semi-finals!
The squirt 1 team beat Rochester 5-1 on Saturday in their quarter final game. The team was on top early with a goal from Alex Gertz at 11:46 in the first period. Gertz had 3 more goals, Broden Landsteiner scored the 2nd goal halfway through the 2nd period, to take the lead. The defense played great not allowing much opportunity for Rochester to score. Defenseman Luc Pelletier had an assist on Gertz’s 3rd goal of the game. Goalie Noah Soule played a great game. On Sunday the team faced off against Agawam, in the semi-final game, they came out on top 4-1 and clinched a spot in the finals. It was another great game with tough defense. Sunday’s goals were scored by Jake Morowski, Alex Gertz, Broden Landsteiner, and an open net goal by Gillon Lilly. Good luck in the finals!
The PW2 team had a great 6-2 win on Saturday against Chelmsford. Goals by Bailey Landsteiner (1), Logan Bower (2), Matthew Tataronis (2) and Ryan Hardy (1) put the Cavs on top. Sunday afternoon the team faced off against the Jr Sharks. The Jr Sharks scored with 5:41 left in the first period to take the lead. Logan Bower had a great game, he scored both goals for the team, the second goal was assisted by Kevin Perry and Will Roncone, to go ahead in the game. At 11:19 in the third period the Sharks scored to tie up the game. The game went into overtime and the Sharks scored in OT to win the game. Goalie Connor Reeves made a number of great saves to keep the Cavs in the game. Great job PeeWee 2’s!
The PW1 Team faced off again New Hampshire East for the second time on 2 weeks. This time in the playoffs. The Cavs played a tough game coming back to tie it up in the second period from a 2 goal deficit (goals by Sean McCarthy, assisted by Chase Devins, and Nick Bono assisted by Jake Roy). Seconds later New Hampshire East scored a go ahead goal, the Cavs did not give up, down 2 goals in the third period, they scored another (Will Dodge, assisted by Sean McCarthy) trying to forge a comeback. Unfortunately they came up short in the end. Goalie Cavan Quinn played outstanding in the game.
The Bantam team started the playoffs early with a game on Tuesday night. Despite having 3 players away on a school trip the team pulled off a 3-0 victory over North Andover. Unanswered goals by Ty Soule with (2 minutes left in the first period), Michael Dodge and Griffin Petrucci in the third paved the way to victory. The quarterfinal game was against Haverhill on Saturday turned out to be a tough loss. Goals scored by Josh Parent (1st period), Michael Dodge (1st period), and Colin MacDonald (2nd period) (assisted by Collin O’Donnell) were not enough to beat the Haverhill Thunder. At the end of the second Haverhill was up 4-3. Unfortunately for the Cavs, Haverhill went on to win the game 6-3, ending the Cavs season. Goalie Brad Walk played great in the 2 playoff games.
